Eating Out

Despite the relatively remote location of the cottages there are plenty of options for restaurants and cafes within a short drive. Many are located close to activity centres and walking routes so you can enjoy much needed refreshment as part of your day out. Many venues in mid-Wales are dog friendly, but do check first to avoid disappointment.

Restaurants and fine dining

The closest restaurant to the cottages is the Hafod Arms in Devils Bridge, a 20 minute drive away. Under new management for the past year, the food is definitely something to write home about!

Further afield we would recommend Y Ffarmers in Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn (pictured), a gastro pub offering really good locally sourced food. You will be spoiled for choice in Aberystwyth, with Italian, Indian and even Hungarian restaurants to choose between.

Lunch and Snacks

There are some great cafes in the area. One of our favourites is at the Red Kite feeding centre near Ponterwyd, where you can watch flocks of small birds on the terrace or the kites wheeling overhead. Penbont House tearooms in the Elan Valley (pictured) is another much loved watering hole with an amazing selection of cakes and lovely views over the valley.

Closer to the home in Pont-rhyd-y-groes is the Tea Shed where you can make yourself a drink and buy some cake – perfect for the end of Walk 5 of our Week of Walks! There is a café at the Devils Bridge waterfalls and also at the Silver Mountain Experience in Ponterwyd.

Some of these are seasonal so please check their websites to avoid disappointment.
