Eating Out

There are many fun things to do in the area, from watching red kites being fed, to visiting waterfalls or underground mines, or taking a steam railway down the Ystwyth valley to the coast. Read on for details of some of our favourites.

Red Kite Centre

Ceredigion is prime bird watching territory. Red Kites can be seen across the area, but for a special treat, visit Bwlch Nant yr Arian, the Red Kite feeding centre at Ponterwyd. Every day at 2pm (summer) or 3pm (winter) you can watch as they feed hundreds of Red Kites.

After a walk around the lake you can get fed yourself at the café! There are also some great walking trails through managed forests starting from their carpark.

Mining Heritage

There are lots of ruined mines in the area, including those 5 minutes up the road from the cottages in Cwmystwyth.

There is a mining museum at Ponterwyd, the Silver Mountain Experience, where you can go inside an abandoned silver mine and explore the disused mine workings. There is also a café and escape room on site.

Devils Bridge

Just 15 minutes down the valley from the cottages is Devils Bridge, the site of some spectacular waterfalls that became popular with travellers in Victorian times.

There is a circular walk for the fit and able, down a lot of steps and back up again (paid entry).

There is also a shop and the Woodlands Tea Room to enjoy. Devils Bridge is also the starting point for a steam railway that goes down the valley all the way to Aberystwyth, a fantastic treat for all the family.
