Frequently Asked Questions
Are the gardens dog proof?
There is a separate garden for each cottage. They are fenced with stock fencing that will keep all but the very smallest dogs inside. There is a barrier of dense shrubs preventing dogs from reaching the lower terrace of the Penroc garden.
Are the kitchens well equipped?
Many guests comment on how well equipped the kitchens are. We try to provide all the common utensils, pots and pans, chopping boards, measuring jugs and spoons. There are weighing scales and some baking dishes and trays and one large casserole in Ty Mari.
Are there laundry facilities?
Ty Mari has a washing machine and a supply of eco laundry detergent suitable for our septic tank and soak-away. Penroc does not have a washing machine, but if in need, our neighbour at the Old Post Office has a laundry she is happy for people to use for a small charge (contact details provided on booking). Both cottages have an electric drying rack, an iron and a table top ironing board.
Can we bring a dog?
Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome – up to 2 per property. There is an additional charge of £15 per dog for the extra cleaning. Dogs are not to go on soft furnishings or beds.
Can we smoke?
The cottages are strictly non-smoking inside, but smokers can use the gravel gardens so long as cigarette smoke does not disturb other guests or neighbours and cigarette butts are disposed of safely in the general waste.
Do Supermarkets deliver to the cottages?
Several major supermarkets in Aberystwyth deliver to the cottages. Do check their websites for details. You may need to book well in advance to secure a delivery slot.
Do you have an electric car charger?
We do not have an electric car charger as they cannot have a payment facility where there is no mobile phone signal. If you have the cables to charge from a regular 13 Amp socket then that is an option, but we would request a £10 contribution per charge.
Do you provide bedding and towels?
Yes, the beds are made up, ready for each guest that has registered and there will be one bath towel per person and a hand towel in the bathroom and kitchen. There will also be a bath mat in the bathroom and two dish towels in the kitchen. You might want to bring your own rubber gloves for washing up.
How are the cottages heated?
There are two night-storage heaters downstairs in each cottage, along with a flame-effect electric stove that can be used to boost the temperature when needed. There is an electric radiator in each bedroom upstairs – and electric blankets on the beds! The Penroc ground floor has underfloor heating which can be turned on for an additional charge if requested.
How do we access the cottages?
There will be no one to meet you at the cottages. Access requires a code for a key safe at the property. Details will be sent once final payment is received.
Is there a BBQ?
Both cottages are supplied with a BBQ and tools, but you will need to bring your own fuel and lighters with you. Please clean grills after use.
Is there any equipment for infants?
We do not provide cots or chairs for infants and you will need to bring all such equipment with you. There is a stair gate and a fire guard in each cottage should they be needed.
Is there internet and Wi-Fi?
Yes, there is broadband and Wi-Fi throughout the cottages, including in the Ty Mari Garden Room. Please note there is no mobile phone signal at the cottages.
What about bird food?
There are several feeders for each cottage and an active bird population to watch through the windows. We provide a small supply of seed, peanuts and fat balls, but if you like to watch the birds we suggest you bring a further supply with you.
What do you provide?
We provide one loo roll to get you started, but you will otherwise need to bring your own. There is hand soap in the kitchens and bathrooms, washing up liquid in the kitchen and a supply of kitchen roll, cling film and tin foil. You will find a salt and pepper grinder in each kitchen. Otherwise you will need to bring all your food with you. The kitchens are well equipped with utensils and pots and pans and there is a tea pot and cafetiere in each cottage.
What is the street address for the cottages?
Ty Mari or Penroc, Cwmystwyth, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, SY23 4AD
What time can we arrive?
Arrival is from 3pm and departure is by 10am
