Welsh Hideaways

Enjoying your Mid-Wales Holiday. The Cambrian Mountains have been recognised as an area of astounding natural beauty.

For some, this low priced self-catering holiday is enhanced by the two dog friendly cottages having inter-communicating, sound-proofed doors.

You can have a lively cottage with games, DVDs and the like and a quiet cottage where you can be still and enjoy the view. They are wonderful for two families wanting space for ten and yet having times apart from each other.  Should you be looking for a place to party late then we would want you to book both cottages (with a discount if no more than 6 of you) so that no-one else is disturbed. If your holiday is immanent, you can check out the WEATHER FORECAST.

Cwmystwyth is at the geographical centre of Wales.  The valley is so very beautiful, having small wooded copses and the River Ystwyth winding its way to the sea at Aberystwyth, less than half an hour from Welsh Hideaways.  The mountain road from Rhayader to Cwmystwyth is described by the AA as one of the 10 most scenic in the world.  Do sign in to iPlayer to watch the ‘Last Wilderness of Wales’  and this Scott Waby video is ready to view to see a little of Ceredigion:

***** A lovely cottage in a stunning location.  Penroc was just what we needed for some rest and relaxation.  We could have spent the whole week just bird-watching from the upstairs balcony and downstairs ‘bird-hide’ with its picture windows!

*****  One of the best holidays we have been on for some time.  Ty Mari is in a lovely position with wonderful views.  The accommodation is very well equipped and the beds are super comfortable.  The caretaker and the team that run the cottage are attentive and make sure you have everything you need and more, for the best stay possible.  100% reccommend and we will definitely book again.

***** Ty Mari a beautiful cottage in a wonderful location.  There are great walks nearby.  The cottage was well equipped with everything that was needed.  The summer house was lovely, nice to sit and watch the birds feeding.  We were very lucky with the weather.  Would love to stay again.

from Caerphilly, March 2022

We were a family group across 3 generations in both cottages and everyone really enjoyed themselves.  Wales is a great place to visit as long as you are prepared for wet and windy weather.  Being able to take in all the views from comfy seats despite the weather was a huge bonus.  We have stayed in many properties over many years but none has matched the attention that the host gives to ensuring your stay is perfect.  We definitely want to return and maybe we will be able to see the night sky next time.  If not, then we will try again!

Penroc a well-equipped cosy cottage in an absolutely superb location.  Incredible places to explore and then come back to relax and watch the wildlife from the windows.

***** Excellent holiday cottage in a very picturesque part of Wales. We have stayed there 4 times now and always have a great holiday. The cottages have everything you might need and cater for dogs as well which is great for us. There are excellent dog walking routes at the “Arch” which about a mile up the road. The mountain road through the Elan Valley is a must do drive and we always take this route to and from the cottages. Highly recommended and will be going back for another stay later in the year.

Penroc is a beautiful cottage with stunning views.  Warm and cosy with everything you need.  Spotless throughout and a lovely enclosed outdoor area, great for kids and dog.  I think hubby is planning on taking his running buddies for a weekend in the future, with the optional adjoining cottage this would be perfect.  We loved the cottage and its location.  And special thanks to Alan (caretaker) for checking on us when it snowed.  We were fine but it was kind of him to phone. Omg the bedding smelled amazing!  Thanks guys for a great holiday. xx

from Shropshire, February 2022

I would give six stars if this was possible!  Penroc is really nice, cosy and light.  Perfect for a training day Ionians and for a sunny day outside on the table and up on the balcony.  Warm with under-floor heating.  The host was super-helpful and responsive, and literally couldn’t do more for us!  Outstanding!

About Our Self Catering Holiday Cottages

Both of our self catering holiday cottages, Ty Mari and Penroc, come fully equipped with king size beds as well as comfy twin rooms so after a long day of walking with the dogs and outdoor activities, you will be sure of a good night’s sleep but before you turn in for the night, you can take full advantage of the wonderful views that mid-west Wales has to offer on the balcony or terrace, while enjoying a home cooked dinner or glass of wine on a summer’s evening.  The international dark sky park is nearby so star-gazing, Milky Way class, is an unforgettable experience (see here) and the cottages are ‘dark sky friendly’.  One site is at The Arch, just close to Welsh Hideaways.

Cambrian Mountains Dark Skies

For those cold and dark nights, there are a range of options to keep you entertained as you enjoy the heat of the stove, including Smart TV, DVDs, audio system, surprisingly fast internet and a good selection of games. Whether it’s a romantic countryside retreat or a large family/group walking holiday in Wales – the cottages cater for everyone (even your dog!).  In 2018, Penroc won the prestigious Customers’ Choice Award, thanks to great reviews. Enjoy #Real Mid-Wales.
