Aberystwyth has some of the best historical sites in West Wales

Aberystwyth beach and pier

As the Royal Commission on Ancient Monuments in Wales reports, boasting of a Iron Age hill fort, ruined medieval castle, Gothic and Neo Gothic architecture, Victorian and Edwardian buildings, Funicular RailwayMuseum, the The National Library of WalesCeredigion Archives, a harbour, Celtic crosses and not forgetting the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, Aberystwyth is undoubtedly home to some of the best historical sites in west Wales.

Wales best in UK for recycling & third best in the world.

By | Uncategorized

Resource journal reports that Wales has been recognised as one of the world’s leading recyclers, coming first amongst UK nations, second in Europe and third globally, according to its own reported statistics. The path to this achievement is remarkable, but of even greater interest will be the future of such a small nation in maintaining its leadership role – and in doing so, developing new pathways for materials recovery and new concepts for old products.

Let’s hope that the thousands enjoying self-catering holidays in Wales are careful to recycle and not just be lazy and use the black general rubbish bags unnecessarily.

We LOVE Wales!

A family day out exploring the River Ystwyth!

By | Uncategorized

Crys Melyn Cycling have an exciting offer for those staying at Welsh Hideaways:

  •  Bike hire – They have a range of bikes and e-bikes for adults and children, and they do a delivery/collection service to Welsh Hideaways.  Although there is no bike shed at the property, the bikes can be locked up safely along the fence.
  •  Ride the river Ystwyth from source to sea: This is a 1-day self-guided bike ride, which includes bike hire, a detailed route plan and home-made snacks. They will transfer riders to Cwmystwyth, and meet them at the end of the day in Aberystwyth. This is a leisurely, mainly downhill, ride along quiet roads with stunning scenery.
  •  Family bike ride – Their Ystwyth Explorers ride follows the river Ystwyth as it winds its way towards the sea. Children will get a chance to learn about the river and its wildlife, practice their bike skills, and enjoy a home-made picnic in the woods.
