21 April 2020 Coronavirus progress

Ceredigion has the lowest number of recorded cases of Covid-19 in Wales, with no new people diagnosed positive in the last three days. Let's all work to maintain this progress as we patiently wait to see one of the most beautiful counties in UK come to life again and able to welcome visitors from across [...]

Visit Mid Wales… later, but don’t forget!

Please do not visit Mid Wales at this time, April 2020, and avoid all unnecessary travel within Wales. Mid Wales has very limited NHS resources with only 2 main hospitals serving the counties of Powys, Ceredigion & Gwynedd. We look forward to welcoming you back in future; but for now, let’s all #staysafe and look after each [...]

Wildlife news: Pine Martens and Welsh Beaver Project

Beavers to head for Wales There is no sign of the pine marten population recovering in southern Britain. Now it is great to have The Vincent Wildlife Trust taking pine martens from Scotland to mid-Wales. One has already been seen in Cwmystwyth, mid-Wales and close to Welsh Hideaways. Should you see one, you can report [...]

Shooting film in Wales is the best

The BBC reports that Tom Cullen, Welsh actor and writer, has been filming 'Pink Wall' in the Elan Valley, close to where he grew up. He was born in Aberystwyth. The film is a love story about two Americans living in Wales. Cullen played Viscount Gillingham in Downton Abbey.

‘Winter is better in Mid-Wales’

Good to read James Stewart's article on Machynlleth under 'Great British Breaks' in the Sunday Times. He starts by saying this is a good time to visit Mid-Wales: Why?'Because winter is better in mid-Wales. After a ripe autumn as the playground for hikers and beachgoers, the gorgeous hills and coast around Machynlleth are quieter. Come [...]

Astronomy Tourism Trail

Ty Mari and the night sky. Down the road is an international dark sky park site at The Arch. A new 'astro-tourism' trail has been created in the Cambrian Mountains linking six new locations awarded a 'dark sky' status, including The Arch, close to Welsh Hideaways between Devil's Bridge and Cwmystwyth.

‘It’s all in the mix’

Lovely article in the Sunday Times saying how much is on offer in Wales, including a wild escape, (which Welsh Hideaways offers). He writes saying that in Aberystwyth there are some wonderful places to eat. These include Byrgyr, Ultracomedia deli and Medina.

What a breath taking hidden part... of Wales. Stunning cottages with stunning views at every turn. We were a family of 9 so stayed in both the cottages. They were a real home from home. Lovingly equipped with everything you could ever need. From leaflets for things to do, kitchen equipment, board games, puzzles and not forgetting the peaceful setting and its beautiful local walks with stunning surroundings. It mostly rained for our week away but that didn't effect our holiday at all. I would highly recommend 🙂read more

My partner and I had a truly... wonderful time in Ty Mari and Penroc. We decided to book both (it's perfectly setup for larger family groups as there is an ajoining door between both). Both are very homely and you can easily relax once you get there. The Elan Valley is absolutely spectacular and the drive to the cottages takes you on a thrilling drive through the valley with lots of places to stop and wonder at including Devils Bridge and the Caban Coch Dam to name only 2. The cottages are easy to keep warm with the added benefit of underfloor heating so we were always cosy. It also gets really dark at night (something us townies aren't used to) and you can see more of the nights sky than I think I ever have! What I also am particularly impressed with is the communication from the owners before & after you arrive. They give great recommendations and ensure that your stay is really easy! We would highly recommend Welsh Hideaways. It's a real retreat and we returned home feeling refreshed and with a renewed appreciation of Wales.read more

Just home from the most magical... week at Ty Mari. The accommodation is perfect in every way and the owner has clearly made every effort to make guests as comfortable as possible. Every detail has been thought of and the place feels like a home from home the moment you walk in. We booked a return visit within a day of arriving. Thanks Gareth for a fantastic stay.
